This is a picture I did of a hunter girl hiding in her surroundings at night. I made the slight color variation in the background lighter at the bottom and lighter off to the right so you wouldn't notice the girl instantly.
Fantasy image means that the color can be taken as a thick atmosphere or just a style for the image.
I used Adobe Photoshop for selection, and organization Illustrator for a quick live trace; I prefer live trace to posterization because you can easily edit the colors. I put the background color in at that stage as well and then back to photoshop for some levels and surface blurs.
